The Church of Sant'Anna dei Lombardi, formerly the Church of Monteoliveto,dominates the Piazza Monteoliveto. This church was once owned by the Abbey of Monteoliveto, located much further north in Tuscany, which is noted for its beautiful frescoes -- something I discovered quite by accident, not long after I decided to do a residence with the Galleria Monteoliveto, when I happened to walk past a second-hand shop and saw a book devoted entirely to the Abbey and its frescoes. I couldn't make it up to Tuscany this year, but since I was within walking distance from the Church, I decided to make it the first subject of my work there.
